About once a year, I’m lucky enough to take a couple of days vacation in New Orleans. We have a tradition of renting a beautiful Uptown classic apartment which allows us to have breakfasts at home and recover from the night before without being cooped up in a cramped hotel room. Each morning we go to our favourite bakery on Magazine St, La Boulangerie, to stock up on pastries and breads for the casa, mainly to assist in soaking up the hangover.
This year I spotted a new product on their shelves – blue cheese bread.
Crusty exterior, with a super soft and dense inside, the top of the loaf is a “volcano” of blue cheese, beautifully baked with a moreish ‘grilled’cheese layer to pick at.
A couple of slices of blue cheese bread with plain cream cheese served with a mug of coffee and chicory is the perfect start to a lazy Louisiana morning.
